What Is a Sharing Request and Why Does Zion HealthShare Use It?

If you’re new to Zion HealthShare, you might have heard the term “Sharing Request” and wondered what it means. Simply put, a sharing request is the first step in having eligible medical expenses shared by the community.

What Is a Sharing Request?

A sharing request is a form you submit through your member portal when you have an emergency, or an upcoming medical need, such as a procedure, hospital visit, or major appointment. 

Submitting a sharing request lets Zion HealthShare know what care you are receiving or planning to receive so the team can review the details and prepare to share eligible medical expenses.


Why Does Zion HealthShare Use Sharing Requests?

Unlike traditional health insurance, Zion HealthShare is a non-profit community-based model. Because providers do not send bills to us, members play an important role in letting us know when care is needed. Sharing requests help the community by allowing us to:

  • Plan ahead for upcoming medical expenses.
  • Verify eligibility based on your membership guidelines.
  • Work with you to make sure any eligible discounts are applied and your Initial Unshareable Amount (IUA) is paid.
  • Share quickly once your need is determined eligible for sharing.

These guidelines are effective as of January 1, 2026.

 

 

Note

The Member Guidelines that go into effect January 1, 2026, will only be applicable to sharing requests that are submitted on or after that date. If a sharing request was submitted prior to January 1, 2026, the sharing request will be reviewed for sharing eligibility according to the Member Guidelines in effect at that time.
